The MYSL season will resume on February 5 and will continue running until the beginning of May pending any COVID restrictions.

Please note that there are two areas where the capacity limits may impact you and we wanted to make sure you were aware of them.

  • Dressing Rooms – Are limited to where physical distancing of 2m per family can be maintained. This may result in groups having to rotate in/out of the rooms to keep this distancing in place.
  • Spectators – Are permitted but they are limited to 50% capacity. Based on the limited capacity we do ask groups to limit spectators as much as possible. Although it’s a guideline and not a rule we ask that you remind everyone that we recommend 1 guardian per participant with unlimited amount of siblings under 18 as a way to reduce the traffic around the fields.

Reminder to all parents/guardians watching from the side that they must have their mask on unless actively drinking from a cup/bottle.

I hope everyone is looking forward to the start of the indoor soccer season. As we prepare for the fall season we received news from the Region of Peel which may impact your team.

Sports activities are no longer considered exempt from the proof of vaccination for indoor recreation activities. Proof of vaccination required for youth sports participants 12 and older is effective November 1.  This will apply to youth and all coaches, instructors, caregivers, volunteers, and game officials.

We apologize for this change so close to the season start date, the decision was just made by the region on Friday. We appreciate this may impact some of your players, please advise if there is any support we can provide or any questions you may have.

Official excerpt:

Brampton, ON. (October 15, 2021) – Effective November 1, 2021 at 12:01 a.m., all participants 12 years and older entering sports or recreational fitness facilities in Peel will be required to provide proof of vaccination or a valid medical exemption, along with identification. This will apply to youth and all coaches, instructors, caregivers, volunteers, and game officials.

Ontario Soccer continues to work in consultation with Canada Soccer and the Government of Ontario, as we prepare for Return to Play 2021. Ontario Soccer will keep the membership updated with the most recent developments surrounding the public health crisis as it relates to our sport.

On Sept. 14, 2021, the Government of Ontario further clarified the details of its Proof of Vaccine Requirements and laid out the exemptions for indoor facilities. They also released the official regulations.

Ontario Soccer communicated these updates on Sept. 14, 2021 in bulletin I2021-075.

Ontario Soccer has now reviewed the new regulations with the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries to confirm interpretation for sport and updated its Return to Play Guide in accordance with the provincial regulations.

In addition to the updates to the Return to Play Guide, today the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries has clarified the following:

  • Proof of identification and proof of being fully vaccinated is not required for workers or volunteers, including coaches and officials.

As a reminder, the Government of Ontario Proof of Vaccination requirements as they pertain to organized sports are for Indoor facilities only.

Organizations are encouraged to review the updated Return to Play Guide and update their own Return to Play plan in accordance with the Government regulations.

Ontario Soccer continues to work in consultation with Canada Soccer and the Government of Ontario, as we prepare for Return to Play 2021. Ontario Soccer will keep the membership updated with the most recent developments surrounding the public health crisis as it relates to our sport.

The Government of Ontario announced on Sept. 1, 2021 its decision to require proof of full vaccination (two doses plus 14-day waiting period) for access to select indoor facilities, beginning on Sept. 22, 2021.

Today, the Government of Ontario has clarified further details of its Proof of Vaccine requirements and further exemptions. They have also released the official regulations.

Ontario Soccer has reviewed the new regulations with the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries to confirm interpretation for sport.

Organized team sports in indoor facilities are one area that has been identified by the Government of Ontario to require proof of full vaccination for access to indoor facilities.

Anyone over the age of 18 (players, coaches, match officials, volunteers, spectators, etc.) are required by the Government of Ontario to show proof of full vaccination before entering indoor facilities for organized team sports.

However, today, the Government of Ontario announced two exemptions to this requirement.

Indoor facilities are exempt from requiring proof of full vaccination for people:

  • Who are under 12 years of age;
  • Who are under 18 years of age, and who are entering the indoor premises of a facility used for sports and recreational fitness activities solely for the purpose of actively participating in an organized sport.

Please note that “organized team sports in outdoor facilities” have NOT been identified by the Government of Ontario to require proof of full vaccination.

Ontario Soccer will update the Return to Play Guide as soon as possible.

In light of the current COVID-19 situation and in an effort to provide as much clarity for all teams as possible, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Fall Indoor Youth Soccer League. We intend to offer a winter session in the New Year if it is safe to do so.  More details to come on that in the future.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding during these challenging times. While it was not an easy decision – rather than facing consistent delays and/or cancellations we thought this was the best path forward.

Thanks very much – let me know if you have any questions. Hope to be in touch in the near future with better news for a winter season.

Ontario Soccer, in consultation with Canada Soccer, have been monitoring the most recent developments with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the emerging public health crisis.

Following discussions with the national governing body, input from relevant government agencies and medical experts, Ontario Soccer has made the difficult decision to immediately suspend all sanctioned soccer activities in the province until further notice.

Ontario Soccer sanctioned activities include, but not limited to, all competitions, training, coach and match official education and team building activities.

To ensure the health and safety of our players, coaches, match officials and administrators, Ontario Soccer recommends that all Districts, Clubs and Academies communicate to their members that they will cease operations indefinitely.

The offices of Ontario Soccer will be closed to the public during this period but staff will be available through email or phone to assist where necessary. The Ontario Soccer Centre will be closed to the public until further notice.

Ontario Soccer will continue following the guidelines set forth by the public health authorities, government agencies and soccer governing bodies.

Updates will be issued as appropriate and will include further details as warranted.
